The West Retreat

Built as a retreat for a busy San Francisco family, Grassi joined Field Architecture and Shawback Design for this project located in one of Napa Valley’s oldest cultivated Zinfandel vineyards. Design inspiration came from a repurposed barn on the property. The gabled compound’s main buildings organize in a U-shaped configuration around a reflective infinity pool. Situated at the center, the open floor plan living, dining room, and kitchen lead to a bedroom wing while guests stay in the buildings across the way. Rustic reclaimed wood mixed with steel-framed windows and doors gives the farmhouse a contemporary look.
